Balancer Cross

C. elegans strains carrying non-conditional recessive lethal mutations cannot survive as homozygotes. In heterozygotes, these mutations are prone to loss through segregation unless heterozygous individuals can be reliably identified. Genetic balancers, which are engineered chromosomes or chromosomal rearrangements, facilitate the stable maintenance of lethal or sterile mutations in heterozygotes. We provide the service to construct strains where lethal mutations are balanced by stable genetic balancers, simplifying the maintenance of these mutations.
