Backcross
Backcross
In C. elegans research, a backcross involves mating a mutant organism carrying a specific mutation with one of its parental strains, typically the wildtype. This technique aims to isolate and stabilize particular genetic traits by eliminating unrelated background mutations. Through successive backcrossing, researchers can ensure that observed phenotypic changes are directly attributed to the mutation of interest, thereby enhancing the accuracy and reliability of genetic studies.
Deliverable
The mutant strain undergoes four successive backcrosses with wild-type N2 males. Following these backcrosses, the strain is characterized phenotypically and/or molecularly.
